Additional The Hours Information

Exiled in Richmond in the 1920s, Virginia Woolf struggles to tame her rebellious mind and make a start on her new novel. In 1990s New York, Clarissa Vaughan goes shopping for flowers for a party for her AIDS-suffering poet-friend. This novel meditates on artistic behaviour, love and madness.

What Customers Say About The Hours:

Cunningham is a talented writer and this book is well written so I give it two stars for that. While I was reading this book, I kept thinking why did Cunningham waste his time writing about this. The problem is that the subject matter is painfully boring. I never developed any empathy for the characters, who I found extraordinarily uninteresting. His talents were utterly wasted here. Paul Gehrman, Author, Kaleidoscope

This is the ultimate homage one writer can give to another. D, the novel spans only one pivotal day in the life of each woman, a day that seems like a microcosm of their entire lives. Mrs.

Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf. And in the present day, "Mrs. It is the story of three women united across time and space by one powerful novel: Mrs.

Brown is reading the novel in post-World War II Los Angeles, a where where she feels completely out of place, unfulfilled and trapped. The characters, who are all profoundly touched in some way by the novel, are rendered in such exquisite, loving detail that the reader's life in turn becomes entwined with theirs.Woolf herself is one of the main characters, just beginning to write Mrs. D while dealing with the repercussions of what today would probably be diagnosed as bipolar disorder.

Dalloway"-as she is nicknamed by her oldest friend-bustles through the day preparing for a party she is giving in her dying friend's honor (another author).Following the same structure as Mrs. And as their stories unfold, we gradually learn that all three women are more closely linked than it seemed at first--indeed, their lives are inextricable entwined with one another's.

Cunningham explores an incredible variety of emotions and demonstrates a unique understanding of human nature. The fears, sensations, and oddities of Virginia, Laura, and Clarissa are so much like my own and it forced private feelings that I have never really acknowledged to come to the surface.

First, "Mrs. I had several reasons to read this book.

Michael Cunningham has a way of describing his characters' thoughts and feelings that makes me feel like he's inside my own mind. Dalloway" is one of my favorite books and the film adaptation of "The Hours" is one of my favorite movies.

So, I was prepared for something profound, but I was not expecting a book that would speak to me the way this one did. Reading this book was a a very personal experience for me, but I believe that any reader will be able to enjoy it.

I would recommend this book to pretty much everyone I know.

She obviously suffers from her own form of depression which only seems to escalate as she reads Woolf's novel, "Mrs. Get ready for a powerfully moving book. From my perspective, it is about characters who are connected through different incarnations. That is something else to which I can relate, having suffered from a lifetime of debilitating depressions. As I see it, the wonderful character that is portrayed in the movie of the book by Julianne Moore is the reincarnation of Virginia Woolf. Don't miss this book. I especially related to this aspect since I believe in reincarnation.

If you like this book, you will definitely want to read his others. The Hours is a fascinating tale of intersecting lives. Dalloway." Michael Cunningham has a gift for painting beautifully lush word pictures that capture the multiple settings in the novel along with fleshing out its multifaceted characters. The Hours had a spiritual dimension which I appreciated since I am the author of a spiritually-themed novel entitled "The Misadventures of Sister Mary Olga Fortitude."The book skillfully moves between two story lines which are set in different times. Virginia Woolf's tragic life is sensitively portrayed in a manner that will help the reader to develop empathy for someone who has suffered from a bipolar disorder. He truly has the gift for writing superb dramatic fiction.

It was a transforming experience for me.Davis Aujourd'hui, author of "The Misadventures of Sister Mary Olga Fortitude"

I didn't think it fair to lower the star rating for a gripe about price, so I gave it five stars -- but, they are selling the dead tree version for $4.99 while still asking $9.99 for the Kindle version. Tsk, tsk.
